Deepak and Rainn – The Big Questions Defining Happiness and More

Deepak and Rainn – The Big Questions Defining Happiness and More

The first question  Rainn Wilson asks Deepak is a big one; “Who are you?” The first question I learned to ask myself at the Chopra Center, just prior to going into meditation was, “who am I? This question along with two others are part of what’s called the ‘Soul questions.”  Each question is asked without expectation, I simply express them silently to myself, releasing them into the universe and allowing the answers to flow into my consciousness over time and connecting me to true nature. Deepak described the as awakening to an understanding that: “You are a luminous stardust being with ... Read More »

Deepak on Happiness Wellbeing and Meditation

Deepak on Happiness Wellbeing and Meditation

Happiness research, over the last few years, has found that we each have a “happiness set point,” which is a combination of “nature and nurture;” that is the genes we inherited and the environment we grew up in.  New discoveries have shown, both your brain and your genetics continue to change and evolve throughout your life, which opens the door for us to change the brain’s happiness set point.  The scientific benefits of meditation have been well documented over the last few decades with research continuing to point to the positive ways that meditation alters brain chemistry. Ultimately the the ... Read More »

Positive Thinking Will Boost Your Happiness

Positive Thinking Will Boost Your Happiness - Rewrite

It would seem to be common sense to believe that positive thinking will boost your happiness. I’ve discovered it’s anything but common. I believe that many people, and I was among them, when they hear the words “positive thinking” conjures up visions of Pollyanna airheads spouting trite affirmations, al la the Saturday Night Live character Stuart Smalley. And if they’re not that harsh, they at least think of them as naïve and unrealistic. Having a positive outlook doesn’t have to mean you deny the negative, that world events, both natural and those created by the human race, can be horrific. ... Read More »

The Key to Happiness is Connecting

The Key to Happiness is Connecting

Positive psychologists have been telling us for a while now that the key to happiness is connecting. But on Facebook, really? Oh, if I could only write out “really” the way Amy Poehler and Seth Meyer’s said it on Saturday night live.  With just a “little” bit of sarcasm. Sure I connect on Facebook, but I’ve never considered in intimate form of relationship building. Different generation I guess. Because according to Hugh MacKay, author and social researcher, that while connecting on social media is a pale comparison to “what we need as humans to maintain community.” The bigger question is just ... Happiness is found in Forgiveness

Happiness is found in Forgiveness

“Ultimately the truth of who we are is not wounded by any experience.” Robert Holden, from “A Dialogue on Forgiveness Sanskrit is said to have been divinely revealed to meditating sages thousands of years ago; the sound of each word representing the subtle energy of its meaning. In this beautiful language, to forgive is to untie – meaning forgiveness is the untying of our emotional knots. It is in this release of emotion, where we freely feel the flow of pain, fear, anger, loss and disappointment and where we also can experience empathy, compassion and ultimately joy. The harder you ... Read More »
