Happiness Marriage Equals Health and Well-Being

The evidence is in and being happily married is part of the equation for a healthier and happier life. According to a new study that examined 20 years data on long term relationships, and regardless of how long a couple has been married, the data shows a correlation between physical well-being and wedded bliss. Focusing on the Good

Focusing on the Good

“Feelings change. Sometimes sorrow, sometimes joy. But beneath it all remember the innate perfection of your life unfolding. That is the secret of unreasonable happiness.”                                                        ~Dan Millman ~  The saying is “you are what you eat” and we all know what it means, that if we eat junk food consistently that our bodies will reflect that reality and become “junk food bodies.” The same is true of our minds. The stream of experiences ... Read More »

Positive Thinking Will Boost Your Happiness

Positive Thinking Will Boost Your Happiness - Rewrite

It would seem to be common sense to believe that positive thinking will boost your happiness. I’ve discovered it’s anything but common. I believe that many people, and I was among them, when they hear the words “positive thinking” conjures up visions of Pollyanna airheads spouting trite affirmations, al la the Saturday Night Live character Stuart Smalley. And if they’re not that harsh, they at least think of them as naïve and unrealistic. Having a positive outlook doesn’t have to mean you deny the negative, that world events, both natural and those created by the human race, can be horrific. ... Read More »

Happiness is found in Forgiveness

Happiness is found in Forgiveness

“Ultimately the truth of who we are is not wounded by any experience.” Robert Holden, from “A Dialogue on Forgiveness Sanskrit is said to have been divinely revealed to meditating sages thousands of years ago; the sound of each word representing the subtle energy of its meaning. In this beautiful language, to forgive is to untie – meaning forgiveness is the untying of our emotional knots. It is in this release of emotion, where we freely feel the flow of pain, fear, anger, loss and disappointment and where we also can experience empathy, compassion and ultimately joy. The harder you ... Read More »

Smile Your Way to Happiness

Smile Your Way to Happiness

Happiness has a lot of triggers and most of them are subjective. For me it’s when I’m feeling in the flow, things are falling into place easily. I’m connecting with the right person at the right time or I find just the information I was looking for while writing. That type of happiness, when I’m truly aligned, arises from within me. When I’m feeling this way, in the flow or what psychologists call self-referral. Of course I get caught up in the “other” kind of happiness, you know, the rocket booster – sugar high type that pumps up the ego ... Read More »

Is Happiness a Matter of Attitude

Is Happiness a Matter of Attitude

“You become what you think” is philosophy that has its roots in ancient teachings. The basis of the philosophy is that what you think most about over time is what you become. If my desire is to live a happy life, my question is happiness a matter of attitude? Another way of phrasing that question is, “is happiness a self-fulfilling prophecy?” There’s a concept in psychology known as the “self-fulfilling prophecy.” This concept is built around the idea that a prediction that causes itself to become true is based in the making of the prediction in the first place. Robert ... Read More »

Small Steps toward Happiness

Small Steps toward Happiness

For me the greatest obstacle on the road to happiness was just getting started, as I’m sure it is for many people. As I would start down my road to happiness (meaning I would consider making the big changes), I would start out very gung-ho only to find my torrent of enthusiasm fading to a trickle of “wouldn’t it be nice if that happened,” type thinking by the onset of February – at least that use to be my pattern. But I’ve changed my approach, and instead of making, what to my ego-mind seemed like huge changes, I just taken ... Read More »

What is Moral Happiness?

As we go through this journey of life, sometimes we are faced with questions that neither our years of schooling nor our experience can answer. These types of questions are often existential, touching us at core of our being, our soul. “What is moral happiness,” is that type of question. Likely that wasn’t the way we heard it in our heads, as the issues that prompted the question in the first place being to surface in our minds. While you have likely dealt with the consequences, this is maybe the first time you’ve heard the term moral happiness, so what ... Read More »
