Johnstone who’s spent a great deal of his career in advertising is, with this offering “Capturing Mindfulness,” combining two of his passions, mindfulness meditation and photography. This book is a “natural follow on from his last book, “Quiet the Mind.”
According to his website, he’s drawn to light, color, composition and a desire to see the world from a different perspective.
Johnstone says “Mindfulness photography is about seeing something that no one else can, capturing something that will never happen again and finding beauty where it typically doesn’t exist.”
Explaining it to ABC news he said “Photography at the end of the day is really about stopping, it’s really about seeing what’s in front of us, it’s really about stopping and focusing and it’s about capturing that moment.”
Mindfulness is about being fully present in the moment, letting go of the past and the future, which is, quieting that little voice in your head so you can fully experience your total environment.
Johnstone encourages us all to try mindful photography as portal to greater self-awareness, because when “we become more consciously aware of who we are, what we are doing and what we’re thinking, life becomes calmer, more enjoyable and generally more manageable.”
Matthew Johnstone’s book and practice is a path through mindfulness to self-realization. Self-realization is the highest form of happiness and joy it is bliss.
