“Law of Attraction…says that which is like unto itself is drawn.” ~Abraham~
Positive psychologist will tell you that how you think about yourself, another person or the world in general, has a greater affect on your experience of happiness than any objective circumstance in your life. The idea that optimistic thinking can and will influence how you first perceive and then act in the world, is not new nor the “discovery” of modern psychology. Seer’s, saints and great grandmothers have for millennia understood the power of positive thinking and the power it can wield in or daily lives.
Optimistic or positive thinking enhances our happiness and benefits us in virtually all aspects of our lives.
It is a truism that positive thinking can only take place now, because there is no other time. However, there’s a paradox in this because part of the power in being optimistic, is you are not only happy and celebrating in this moment, but you are anticipating (savoring the idea of) a happy future.
How does this process work?
Before I share my thoughts on that, I have to tell you that a big “ah ha” moment came for me when I realized that optimism was a choice.
Sure, I understood the concept intellectually. Just like you, I’d hear all the related quips, “don’t think about it too much,” or “look on the bright side,” but really owning the idea that positive thinking was a choice was different; and I also got that if I really wanted to change my life, it was also my responsibility.
Again the question was “How does this process work?”
How you think about yourself, another person or the world in general effects how you feel about those three relationships.
How you feel is the activation of your emotions and ultimately your physiology (this is the process of manifestation.) Negative emotions are feelings of fear and separation. Positive emotions are feelings of unity and love.
Emotions are vibration. If you doubt that, check in on your body sometime when your really angry or super happy, and you won’t be able to miss it. It’s easy then, to think of positive or negative emotions as positive and negative vibrations.
The Law of Attraction says “that which is like unto itself is drawn” or “like attracts like” and positive psychology says that “how you think about yourself and others” affects your experience of happiness and as equally true, your unhappiness.
And as Abraham teaches, these emotions/vibrations are your indicators of the direction of your life and desires.
Abraham’s way of saying you have a choice. you can choose optimism and happiness or resistance and pessimism – You can choose love or you can choose fear.
What choice are you making right now?
The Law of Attraction obeys the laws of physics and responds in kind to the vibration, the emotion, that you are offering right now, whether positive or negative because the universe doesn’t judge your choice.
The good news is that we have lots of opportunities to choose and that choosing is actually a practice. Positive or optimistic thinking can be cultivated.
The strategies for cultivating positive thinking are the same as they are for cultivating happiness (in fact they’re synonymous.)
