The Happiness Practice of Complimentary Medicine Therapy

The Happiness Practice of Complimentary Medicine Therapy

This “happiness practice” comes from Robert Holden’s “Happiness Now” book, and is grounded in the concept that there is significant healing and happiness potential in the offering loving, kind and encouraging words. In other words paying someone a compliment. This “therapy” is applied in a three part process. The first stage: Write down five compliments that you would most like to hear from someone else. They could for example, “highlight a particular quality, talent, skill or value that is dear to you.” Once you have the written down the second phase of this first stage is to read them out ... The 4 Step Happiness Prescription

The 4 Step Happiness Prescription

I was once asked, that if a doctor gave me a prescription to spend 20 to 30 minutes twice a day walking and those walks alone would create abundant good health, peace of mind, freedom from worry, increased success in both my personal and professional life would I follow her recommendations? My teacher was using the metaphor of walking to describe the benefits of meditation. What if you added three more easy steps to this prescription? Steps that would only add about ten more minutes, to the 20 minutes of meditation each day, and in that brief span of time ... Read More »

The Golden Triangle of Happiness

What does it take to make us happy? There is a lot of research being done on that question at the moment, in fact it is seems as if I’m reading about data being released from one university or another on a daily bases. The latest comes from Deakin University, Melbourne Australia, by way of psychology Professor Robert Cummins, who has proposed what ‘s being called the “golden triangle of happiness.” This was no short term study. Getting in the Zone – the Happiness Zone

Getting in the Zone – the Happiness Zone

Remember the show the Twilight Zone? A 1960’s sci-fi program where all sorts of weirdness happened. I have those occasional days when I feel as if life more closely resembles the TV show that it does than what real life is supposed to feel like. It’s at times like these that I become acutely aware that there’s a sub-surface tension, anxiety stewing just below my emotional field. Part of the human experience is dealing with negative emotions which inevitably arise because they are evolutionarily wired-in. They are a conditioned response: and these “bad boys” rob and steal. They steal joy, ... Read More »

The Fear of Unhappiness

The Fear of Unhappiness

“Each morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most.”                                          ~Jack Kornfield~ The thought that I might lose my home sent waves of nausea and anxiety rolling through me. The mind is a funny thing, at least mine is; it always goes straight for the worst case scenario. I started having one of those split-personality conversations in my head. The first little voice in my head said something like, “You’re going to be homeless, penniless, living ... Read More »

The Flow – Gateway to Happiness and More?

The Flow - Gateway to Happiness and More?

I experienced it all the time when I played guitar. I’d start “practicing” and the next thing I’d know it’s the middle of the night. “What the heck happened, it was 9 o’clock just a minute ago,” and now its hours later. I was so absorbed in “perfecting” the song that I completely lost track of time. The usual mind chatter that’s normally a constant companion – nonexistent. There were no interruptions from my “inner roommate” the whole time I was playing. Nothing else seemed to matter. I would spend hours working on a “riff” or fine tuning a lyrical ... Read More »
